You are a magnificent being

One of my dearest friends recently sent a gaggle of her most treasured women friends the following note:

My fourteen year old is participating in a workshop for young women. On the last day they will be sharing messages from women in their lives speaking about what they wished they were told at that age. I would love it if you would write a short note/email for this occasion?

I did not hesitate because I adore this young woman with all my heart. And I share it here because its message should be felt by all. Mothers, daughters, fathers, sons. You ALL are magnificent beings…

Three and a half years ago I saw my first TED talk. The speaker, a woman named Jill Bolte Taylor, was a Harvard neuroscientist who had suffered a stroke. I was blown away by her presentation for several reasons, but mainly because, without doing so directly, she was doing a great job of explaining what I imagine it is like to be a baby.
